TIMBUKTU, MALI

DECRIPTION:

The “Timbuktu“ landscape shows the city of Timbuktu situated in Mali in the African continent. In the middle of the city, the dense walnut-shaped original city structure can be seen, earlier protected by a city wall that is no longer there.
The densest inner city is dissolved into newer, ortogonally planned areas that form the outskirts of the city. Closest to the desert are water reserves represented by blue dots in the landscape. From the left, a bright red dirt road enter the city.
The desert lies tranquil and deserted around the city. The wind shape the sand in beautiful patterns reminiscent of waves.
The landscape is an attempt to show the beauty of a country related to a lot of political instability. The landscapes are there no matter what political riots rage the inhabitants and somehow remind us that everywhere in the world there are people who just want to live a good peaceful life.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

“Geosperical Landscapes” is a landscape project by Wild Things where planet Earth is viewed through the eyes of a satellite. The images show the impact human kind has on the landscapes surrounding us as well as the impact landscapes have on us. The landscapes also serve as a time capsule of how the ever-changing landscape and human structures looked at this time in history.
