GLACIER TONGUE II, ICELAND
The “Glacier Tongue ll“is a closeup of the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. It is found where the glacier melts towards the southern shores.
Glaciers move as extremely slow rivers. They gain mass by snowfall and move due to stresses caused by their weight. At the lower left side of the landscape, glacial ice is breaking off in pieces the size of houses.
The black and white contrast appears when black ashes from volcanic eruptions fall upon the white glacial ice. When the glacier moves forward during summer and pull back by winter, the volcanic ashes are drawn into the ice, thus creating the impressive drawings.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
“Geosperical Landscapes” is a landscape project by Wild Things where planet Earth is viewed through the eyes of a satellite. The images show the impact human kind has on the landscapes surrounding us as well as the impact landscapes have on us. The landscapes also serve as a time capsule of how the ever-changing landscape and human structures looked at this time in history.
